Each has a blind spot
Electronic security, meaning CCTV, alarms, access control and detection, records and alerts, but it does not intervene. Manned guarding intervenes, deters and applies judgement, but a person cannot be everywhere and does not have perfect recall. Used alone, each leaves a gap the other is designed to close.
How a layered model works
Detection technology extends the perimeter and gives early warning. Trained officers verify the alert, decide the response and act. The control room ties it together, monitoring feeds and coordinating patrols and, where needed, Police response. The result is faster, better-informed decisions and a clear record afterwards.
Where it pays off most
Large or difficult sites such as estates, warehouses, industrial facilities and event venues benefit most, because foot patrol alone cannot achieve reliable coverage and cameras alone cannot respond. Banks, airports and high-traffic venues add detection equipment such as anti-bomb and metal detectors as a further layer.
Getting the balance right
The right mix depends on the site: its size, its risk profile, the value of what is being protected and how quickly a response is needed. A proper site survey should come before any proposal, and the plan should be reviewed as the site and the threat change.
